The Best in San Diego Family Hotels

Our Neighbor is the Wild Animal Park!

The list of activities you can participate in while visiting San Diego is endless. You can go to the popular San Diego Zoo or SeaWorld or you can stray from the beaten path and visit some of the historical areas and parks in the city. Here is a list of just some of the things you can do with the whole family on your visit:

La Jolla Cove
See the magnificent sunset on the ocean. La Jolla Cove is one of the most spectacular natural settings in the world.

Maritime Museum of San Diego
The Maritime Museum of San Diego is home to the world's oldest sailing vessel that still sails - "The Star of India". This beautiful square rigger can be visited on the waterfront in downtown San Diego.   The museum has several other ships as well.

Mission Beach
Mission Beach offers opportunities to participate in sunbathing, horseshoes, surfing, bicycling, skateboarding, Frisbee tossing, and other outdoor activities. A local skating club, "Skate This!," performs for free on weekends, executing trick skating and dancing on both rollerblades and traditional skates. It is a well known, popular location for engaging in sports, including beach volleyball and basketball, with courts available for both.

Old Point Loma Lighthouse
the lighthouse is no longer in service but still stands as a landmark and museum. Visitors may enter the lighthouse and view parts of the living quarters there. Visitors are sometimes greeted by volunteer historical re-enactors such as "Captain Israel", a real historical figure who was lighthouse keeper from 1871 to 1892, or "members of the crew" of Cabrillo's ship.

San Diego Zoo
The San Diego Zoo is truly one of America's treasures giving visitors a unique look at many of these magnificent creatures.  Be warned, the habitats are built for the animal's comfort, not the visitors feet.  A walk through the enormous park can be a trying experience. Bus tours make this task much easier and is highly recommended.

Seaport Village
Enjoy hours of free entertainment, leisurely strolling and window shopping. Enjoy a laid-back day of hanging out in the grass and watching the many passing yachts and ships on picturesque San Diego Bay, or take in the sights from one of the many bay-view eateries.

SeaWorld San Diego
SeaWorld takes you on a one-of-a-kind journey to the wonders that exist beyond the ocean's door. A place where up-close encounters connect you to the energy, excitement and mystery of the sea and sea life.

Torrey Pines State Reserve
Although this park is located within San Diego's city limits, it remains one of the wildest landscapes along the Southern California coast, with miles of unspoiled beaches, chaparral, elegant Torrey Pine trees and a lagoon vital to many species of migrating birds

USS Midway Museum
The USS Midway Museum is a real naval aircraft carrier that served in the United States Navy for 47 years.  Large and very impressive, it has real jets and real airplanes up on the flight deck, that travelers can actually walk into and even sit in the cockpits of some planes. They also offer an audio tour free with admission, that takes you through the kitchens and the laundry rooms and all around the ship.
