Queen Lili'uokalani canoe race

The world's largest long distance canoe race, attended by paddlers from all over the world. Two days of racing: The single-hull canoe races will be on Saturday, followed by double hull and one-person canoe races on Sunday.

SLACK KEY GUITAR FESTIVAL

This annual festival, which features the greats of slack key guitar, will be held at the Sheraton Kona Resort & Spa Convention Center from 12-6pm. Food and drink will be available for purchase; no outside food or beverages allowed. Free admission.

2013 RUN FOR HOPE

Run For Hope is a non-competitive 10K Run & 5K Run/Walk event. Proceeds from this event benefit cancer research in Hawai'i.

Falsetto & storytelling contest

The annual Kndy Sproat Falsetto & storytelling contest is to be held at the Waikoloa Beach Marriott's Naupaka Ballroom.

Both home cooks and top professional chefs compete against their peers for the championship recipe of this popular Hawaiian dish that is made from the freshest fish or shellfish plus seasonings.

Festival of 1000 Bowls

Escape the heat of summer and head up the hill for the 7th annual "Cool Fusion: The Festival of 1000 Bowls." Enjoy hiyashi somen (chilled Japanese noodles) served in a handmade bowl of your choice to keep.

KAHALU'U BEACH CLEAN-UP

Join an end-of-summer beach clean-up focusing on getting cigarette butts off the beach. Cigarette smoking is illegal at the County Park, but people are still doing it.

Lanihau Center celebrates their 25th Birthday with a Craft Fair from 2-9pm and a concert at 5pm featuring top local entertainers - Bruddah Waltah, LT Smooth, Sudden Rush, and Mana`o Company.

WILIWILI FESTIVAL

The Waikoloa Dry Forest Initiative will be hosting the Wiliwili Festival on September 14th, 2013. The festival will be held at the Waikoloa Stables from 10am to 3pm. Admission is free.

The town of Honoka'a on the Hamakua Coast of the Big Island joins the world in observing the United Nations' International Peace Day.

PANIOLO PARADE

The 10am Paniolo Parade will start at "Church Row" and proceed to Waimea Park, featuring princesses on horseback with attendees (complete with "Pooper Scooper" brigades!) decorated with the flowers of their respective islands.
