- 'Iolani Luahine Hula Festival
From 25 Fri Jan 2013 to 26 Sat Jan 2013
The 11th annual 'Iolani Luahine Hula Festival will be held on January 24, 25 & 26 on the grounds of Hulihe'e Palace and the Courtyard King Kamehameha's Kona Beach Hotel in Kailua-Kona.
The 'Iolani Luahine Festival was established in 2003 with a vision to perpetuate the hula, and it also serves as a way to honor the memory of 'Iolani Luahine and her contributions to the preservation of hula and Hawaiian culture. This year the festival will again include hula workshops and presentations, and an educational challenge to Kumu Hula with a prize for the one who best demonstrates the values of 'Iolani Luahine: education and Hawaiian culture.
Hula presentations will be held January 24 & 25 and are free community events.
Evening musical entertainment on Friday and Saturday on the grounds of Hulihe'e Palace will be open for everyone to enjoy; tickets will be available at the door for a modest $10 donation.
Saturday night's entertainment will feature Kainani Kahaunaele. On Saturday, the festival will feature quality Hawaiian arts and crafts by local artisans along with free entertainment all day from 9am-6pm.
Registration fees and information about the workshops and events are available at www.iolaniluahinefestival.org.
